25 Things I Learnt From My Parents Marriage

25 things I learnt from my parents marriage

Today my parents have been married for 25 years - making it their 25th Wedding Anniversary. This got me to thinking of the 25 things I have learnt from their marriage.

25 Things I Learnt From My Parents Marriage

1. Compromise is key to a lasting relationship

2. Making each other laugh is very important

3. It's okay to be in the same room and not speak to each other

4. You can get through anything with the one you love on your side

5. Sometimes it's best just to shut up

6. Showing you care isn't about buying each other gifts

7. Things don't always go the way you planned and that's okay

8. Without trust you have nothing

9. You will develop many pet names for each other

10. Quiet nights in together are just as important as nights out

11. You will share everything about your day-to-day life - even what you had for lunch

12. The small things mean more than the big things

13. Support your partner even when they don't feel like supporting themselves

14. Sometimes you have to accept that not all problems can be solved

15. Never take each other for granted

16. Always be open and honest - it can get you far in life

17. You will learn something new about your other half every day

18. Nobody is perfect

19. Sometimes a look can speak a thousand words

20. Don't sweat the small stuff

21. Don't keep secrets from each other - you will always be found out

22. Never hide who you really are - even if you are really weird

23. There is no point in holding grudges

24. Look past the flaws and see the good in the other person

25. Be realistic in your expectations

Secret to Happiness

Watching my parents go through life and stick at it together is something that makes me extremely proud. Not everyone works on their relationships in this day and age so to see two people strive to keep their love alive everyday is something that is an inspiration to me.

Here's to the next 25 years Mum & Dad.

There is no recipe for a successful marriage - just never give up
